About IFS

Posted By IFS

IFS is an independent private laboratory specialized in Bloodstainpattern analysis, Touch-DNA analysis, Forensic Pathology and Cytochrome P450 analysis. IFS has outstanding experience from crime scene investigation to biological trace recovery.

The mission of the Independent Forensic Services forensic program is to meet the unique requirements of clients while delivering high-quality, accurate forensic investigation where the results can be interpreted in criminalistic reports. Founded in 2003, Selma and Richard Eikelenboom have successfully handled high-profile cases in The United States, The Netherlands, Great Britain, Bangladesh, Liberia, Costa Rica, Armenia and Australia. The cases focus on complexity, ranging from murder cases involving complex DNA recovery to injury interpretation, cause and time of death and interpretation of Cytochrome P450 polymorphisms. We are specialized in so-called “Touch-DNA”; minimum amounts of DNA (“low template DNA”) left when force is applied. We have over 10 years experience in finding these traces on pieces of evidence, recovering them and extracting DNA from them. Interpreting the often complex DNA profiles generated from low template DNA is an expertise in itself. Due to our experience with Touch-DNA we are better capable performing interpretations on obtained complex mixed profiles.

Latest techniques and knowledge
IFS is one of the first to investigate the relation between prescribed medication and involuntary intoxication. We have handled several cases where the relevance of Cytochrome P450 polymorphisms in violence and suicide can not be denied.

High profile cases
Well-known cases in which IFS personnel performed investigations and/or appeared as expert witnesses in court include the cases involving Tim Masters, Jon Benet Ramsey, the Walsham Three, Casey Anthony, David Camm, John Bender and James Holmes.
